Zinedine Zidane's agent says the France captain headbutted Marco Materazzi in Sunday's World Cup final because the Italian made a "very serious" comment.
Zidane appeared to react to something that was said and was dismissed for his violent charge into his opponent.
"He told me Materazzi said something very serious to him but he wouldn't tell me what," agent Alain Migliaccio told BBC Five Live Sport.
Sources in France say it is believed Materazzi insulted Zidane's mother.
Migliaccio, who spoke to Zidane early on Monday morning, added that Zidane did not elaborate on what Materazzi said.
"I don't know. Zinedine didn't want to talk about it but it will all come out in the next week. He is a man who normally lets things wash over him but on Sunday night something exploded inside him.
He was very disappointed and sad. He didn't want it to end this way."

I felt mighty bad for Zidane. I admit it was irresponsible, but sometimes, a man's gotta stand up for himself. It was a tragic end to a great career.

I am fan of both these teams and a BIG fan of zizou. I am sure the reaction from Zizou was provoked and justified. He has so much respect for other players and i dont think he will ever do something on a football field which will denigrate his status. The whole incident was totally provoked by MAterazzi but referee had no choice but send off zizou.
Whatever it was we should remember Zidane has given us some great moments of football in the last 10 years and was a legend of this generation of footballers. Even Pirlo commented that Zidane is/was a great player and should be respected despite this incident. Please refrain from cursing players. They give their heart out on the fields to make their fans happy. They deserve a little respect.
